The Educational Innovation Project (EIP) “Urban Heritages” is the follow-on programme of the “Innovación y transversalidad: aplicación del aprendizaje colaborativo al patrimonio arquitectónico y el urbanismo en Castilla y León” EIP, that was born in the course 2014/2015 by initiative of a group of professors of the Departamento de Teoría de la Arquitectura y Proyectos Arquitectónicos and the Departamento de Urbanismo y Representación de la Arquitectura of the School of Architecture (many of them members of the IUU) with the objective of alleviating some of the main historical deficiencies that brought teaching in Urbanism and History of Architecture, such as the need for a significant and applied knowledge to the architectural, spatial, urban and territorial fact and a real transversality of knowledge for students and professors.
The project is therefore based on the principles of conceptualization (modern and epistemologically and methodologically updated teaching), transversality (both between subjects and between professors from different departments and also with other fields such as the professional) and innovation (with the aim of renewing the concepts and the methodology used, supporting it in collaborative learning). Its title is referred to the teaching opening to all the wide range of the urban heritage and the will to approach it of face-to-face and multidisciplinary form.
Throughout its succesive editions, the project has reached hundreds of students of the University of Valladolid, to which are added others of the University of León and of Hamilton College, and has allowed to consolidate a Group of Edicational Innovation composed of professors from the Sections of Urbanística y Ordenación del Territorio, Composición Arquitectónica and Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica of the University of Valladolid, as well as professors from the University of León, Hamilton College and University of Oviedo and several external professionals and collaborators.
The EIP was awarded the “Consejo Social” Award for Educational Innovation 2017, annually convened by the Consejo Social of the University of Valladolid in collaboration with the Vice-Rectorate for Academic Planning and Teaching Innovation in order to recognize the effort of the faculty members of the University of Valladolid in the introduction of innovations that represent a clear advance in the adaptation of education to the current needs.
