Marina Jiménez Jiménez, born in Ávila (1972), is currently a professor at the Department of Urbanism and Architectural Representation of the University of Valladolid. She has also taught urbanism and drawing at the Portuguese Universities Lusíada in Oporto and Vila Nova de Famalicão (2009-2011, in their respective Faculdades de Arquitectura) and acting professor in the Department of Architectural Projects and Urbanism at the University of A Coruña (academic year 2012-2013).
She is a member and continuous collaborator in the research activity of the Instituto de Urbanística since 1993. Architect – specializing in Urban Planning – since 1998, she obtained her PhD degree from the University of Valladolid in 2009, with a thesis on Park System: genesis and evolution of a “structuring” principle of the urban. During those ten years she was a doctoral research fellow at the University and the Ministry of Education and assistant professor in the Department of Urban Planning at the University of Valladolid. She has had the opportunity to enjoy several research stays in prestigious foreign university centers (Edinburgh, Montevideo; Rome; Milan; Philadelphia), which have allowed her to acquire a fundamental overview of very different cities and the way to deal with their places.
She specializes in the field of urban planning and design and, more particularly, in the relationship between the city and “its” natural open spaces, and a good part of her studies -including lectures, papers and some articles- can be included in these topics. But his research work in urban and regional planning extends to more areas, having been part of the teams of the Institute that developed pioneering projects in this community such as the Guidelines of Valladolid and surroundings (2001), those of Segovia and surroundings (2005), Management Plan – Unesco – of the Old City of Salamanca, etc.
He has also collaborated in different urban-architectural projects (mainly with the architects Ana Jiménez and María de la O García), having obtained some professional awards for it.
